ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced plans to tighten its accreditation requirements for computer-based test centres ahead of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Board warned that facilities that fail to meet its standards will not be allowed to participate.

JAMB said it would only approve centres with adequate facilities, reliable infrastructure, and the technical capacity to conduct examinations without disruptions.

The Meeting

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, disclosed this during a meeting with the leadership of the Chief External Examiners. The meeting focused on preparations for the accreditation exercise ahead of the 2027 UTME.

According to a post on the Board’s official X handle on Thursday, the meeting was organised to improve examination administration. It was also meant to ensure that CBT centres comply with established operational requirements.

Screening Out Substandard Centres

The Board explained that the accreditation exercise would help identify and screen out centres that lack the necessary equipment and facilities to host candidates.

It stressed that the move was aimed at preventing avoidable disruptions during the examination.

JAMB further maintained that candidates must be provided with a secure and conducive environment, regardless of the centres where they sit for the examination.

“Only centres that meet JAMB’s standards will be accredited to host the examination. For candidates, that means a fair and secure place to sit the UTME, wherever they write it,” the Board stated.

What This Means

The warning underscores JAMB’s determination to improve the conduct of the 2027 UTME.

It also shows that the Board is committed to ensuring that inadequate facilities do not compromise the examination or affect candidates’ performance.

What Happens Next

The accreditation exercise will commence in the coming weeks. Centres that fail to meet the standards will be excluded from hosting the examination.
