A 21-year-old Brazilian woman, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, has died after reportedly being pushed off a bridge without a safety rope during a bungee-jumping event in São Paulo State.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday at the so-called “Skeleton Bridge” in Limeira, where Freitas fell approximately 130 feet (40 metres) into a ravine after event staff allegedly failed to secure her with the required safety equipment.
According to reports, Freitas was escorted onto the platform by two men before being pushed from the edge. A video circulating online reportedly captured bystanders shouting that she was not attached to a rope moments before the fall.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene but confirmed her dead on arrival.
Witnesses told police that organisers may have forgotten to fasten the safety cord before the jump. Authorities have since detained six individuals connected to the event—five men and one woman—as investigations continue.
Freitas had earlier shared photos from the location on social media, showing the bridge and other participants. In one post, she wrote, “Who was the crazy person that let me jump off a bridge???”
The company reportedly responsible for organising the event, Entre Cordas, is now under intense scrutiny following the incident.
Local media reports suggest that some organisers fled the scene after the tragedy. Police later located two of them during a helicopter search operation in a nearby wooded area.
Freitas’ fiancé, who was present at the scene, was said to have required medical attention after learning of her death.
The Civil Police have launched a full investigation and are expected to determine whether criminal charges will be filed against those involved.
