Chelsea produced a devastating attacking performance to thrash Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge in Matchweek 8 of the Premier League season, as Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro scored twice each to lead the Blues to an emphatic victory.

Morgan Rogers also got on the scoresheet in a remarkable contest that saw Chelsea score twice within the opening three minutes before adding three more goals after the break. Bournemouth briefly threatened to make a contest of the encounter, but Chelsea’s attacking quality ultimately proved too much for the visitors.

The result provided a timely response for Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso following his team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford before the international break.

Chelsea wasted no time announcing their intentions, taking the lead after just two minutes through Henderson, who marked his home debut with a spectacular finish.

The move began with Cole Palmer driving forward before cutting the ball back into the path of Henderson. The experienced midfielder made no mistake, unleashing a curling effort from outside the penalty area that struck the far post before finding the back of the net.

Bournemouth had barely recovered from the opening blow when Chelsea struck again in the third minute.

Henderson turned provider, setting up Rogers, whose effort took a deflection off Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva before flying past goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic into the far corner.

The goal was checked for a possible offside involving Joao Pedro, but the referee allowed it to stand, leaving Bournemouth with a mountain to climb barely three minutes into the match.

Chelsea’s blistering start could have produced another goal before the interval, but Bournemouth attempted to respond through Rayan, who found himself in a promising position after being played through by Marcus Tavernier.

However, Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez produced an important save to deny Rayan in a one-on-one situation. Martinez then recovered quickly to stop Ryan Christie from capitalising on the rebound, preventing Bournemouth from reducing the deficit before half-time.

Chelsea carried their attacking momentum into the second half and extended their advantage almost immediately after the restart.

Joao Pedro made it 3-0 in the 46th minute, finishing confidently after Pedro Neto exploited a defensive mistake by Antonio Silva and delivered a cutback into the Brazilian forward’s path.

The goal arrived just seconds after the restart, dealing another major blow to Bournemouth’s hopes of recovering from their disastrous opening.

Bournemouth, however, managed to pull one back in the 51st minute through Evanilson, who benefited from a chaotic situation inside Chelsea’s penalty area following a corner.

After the delivery caused problems for the home defence, Moises Caicedo attempted to clear the danger, but the ball struck Evanilson and deflected into the net. The scrappy goal offered Bournemouth a brief opportunity to put Chelsea under pressure.

The visitors attempted to build on that breakthrough, but Chelsea responded with another decisive attacking move to restore their three-goal advantage.

Joao Pedro completed his brace in the 67th minute after an impressive passage of play involving Rogers and Pep Chavarria.

Rogers helped advance the move before Chavarria delivered a well-timed ball across the face of goal, allowing Joao Pedro to finish from close range and make it 4-1.

The Brazilian’s second goal effectively ended Bournemouth’s hopes of staging a comeback, while underlining his importance to Chelsea’s attacking plans.

Henderson then delivered the moment of the afternoon in the 70th minute, completing his brace with a superb free-kick to seal Chelsea’s fifth goal.

After Palmer was fouled outside the penalty area, Chelsea were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. With Palmer among the obvious candidates to take responsibility, Henderson instead stepped forward and produced a magnificent strike, curling the ball over the defensive wall and into the top corner beyond Petrovic.

It was a fitting finish to an outstanding individual performance from the former Liverpool captain, who contributed two goals and an assist.

The match also featured several disciplinary incidents, with Bournemouth players Marcus Tavernier, Adrien Truffert, Tyler Adams and Ryan Christie receiving yellow cards for fouls during the encounter.

Despite Chelsea’s commanding victory, Bournemouth managed to create opportunities of their own and finished with seven corners compared with Chelsea’s one. Martinez’s crucial first-half saves also proved important in ensuring the visitors could not build momentum before the break.

For Chelsea, the victory offered encouraging signs of their attacking potential, with Henderson’s experience complementing the creativity of Palmer, Rogers, Neto and Joao Pedro.

Henderson’s performance was particularly impressive, while Joao Pedro’s two goals demonstrated his ability to exploit defensive mistakes and finish chances inside the penalty area.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a difficult afternoon in which their defensive vulnerabilities were exposed repeatedly, particularly during the opening minutes and immediately after half-time.

Chelsea’s five-goal display ultimately told the story of a match defined by a ruthless start, clinical finishing and decisive individual moments.

With Henderson and Joao Pedro both scoring twice and Rogers adding another, the Blues secured a convincing 5-1 victory that will provide renewed confidence as they continue their Premier League campaign.
