The Labour Party (LP) has made an impressive outing in the South East report card for 2023 South East legislative polls in the general election held on February 25, 2023.
According to the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party swept nearly half of all the legislative seats contested in the region.
Results showed that Labour Party won 43 seats in the House of Representatives and 5 seats in the Senate.
The tabulation below shows how Labour Party performed in the House of Representatives in the last election.
Out of the 43 seats in the House of Representatives in the South East, each state has:
- Abia State — 8
- Anambra State — 11
- Ebonyi State — 6
- Enugu State — 8
- Imo State — 10
Total — 43 seats.

According to political pundits, the successes of the party is not unconnected to the presence of its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
Peter Obi, it could be recalled, won 12 states along with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) out of the 36 states in the country during the just concluded presidential election.
In the words of an observer, “Labour Party is now the dominant party in South East Nigeria thanks to Peter Obi”.
