Sule Lamido declares boycott of PDP meetings over Wike, Ortom presence

Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, has taken a firm stand against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) leadership.

He announced his refusal to attend any PDP meetings until certain members face disciplinary action.

Lamido specifically demanded the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike from the party’s ranks.

During a recent interview, Lamido expressed deep frustration with the PDP’s tolerance of anti-party activities.

He criticized the party’s failure to discipline members who violate its constitution.

The former governor singled out Samuel Ortom, former Benue State governor, for supporting Labour Party’s Peter Obi during the 2023 elections.

“Ortom openly campaigned for another party’s candidate yet remains on our Board of Trustees,” Lamido stated emphatically.

He argued such actions undermine party unity and discipline.

The veteran politician recalled when PDP members respected internal rules without question.

Lamido lamented how the party now tolerates open defiance of its decisions. He stressed that without consequences, such behavior would continue eroding party values.

“I remain a PDP member but won’t participate while these issues persist,” he declared.

The former governor’s boycott highlights deepening divisions within Nigeria’s main opposition party.

His stance reflects concerns about weakening party structures and declining discipline.

Observers note Lamido’s move may embolden others to demand internal reforms.

Party officials have yet to respond publicly to Lamido’s ultimatum.

However, political analysts suggest this could trigger wider discussions about party loyalty.

The PDP faces mounting pressure to address internal grievances ahead of future elections.

Lamido’s protest comes amid ongoing tensions between PDP factions following the 2023 elections.

Many members remain dissatisfied with how the party handled post-election disputes.

His bold stance may force leadership to confront long-simmering discontent.

The party’s constitution clearly outlines disciplinary measures for anti-party activities.

Lamido’s challenge questions why these rules aren’t being enforced consistently. His position resonates with members who value party discipline and unity.

Political observers warn that ignoring such concerns could further fragment the opposition party.

They note the PDP must balance internal democracy with maintaining cohesion. Lamido’s boycott serves as a wake-up call for party leadership.

As the situation develops, all eyes remain on how PDP leadership will respond.

The party’s ability to manage this crisis may determine its future effectiveness.

Lamido’s principled stand has undoubtedly raised the stakes for Nigeria’s main opposition party.
