Police kill two kidnappers in Delta, recover AK-47

(DDM) – Security forces in Delta State have foiled a kidnap attempt, killing two suspected bandits during a gun battle in Ika North-East Local Government Area.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the operation occurred at the Owa Ekei Boji Boji Owa axis, an area notorious for violent crimes and cult-related clashes.

Delta State Police Command confirmed the development, with spokesman SP Bright Edafe revealing that the raid was carried out following credible intelligence on kidnappers’ movements.

He said a joint team comprising policemen, local vigilantes, and members of the special security formation, Operation Delta Sweep, stormed the bush where the suspects were hiding.

According to Edafe, the kidnappers opened fire on the advancing security team, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Two suspects sustained severe gunshot injuries during the confrontation and were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital.

They were later confirmed dead by medical personnel, bringing the swift end to what could have been another abduction tragedy in the state.

Security forces recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle, forty rounds of live ammunition, and two magazines from the crime scene.

Authorities confirmed that a manhunt is underway for other fleeing gang members who escaped the security cordon during the operation.

Residents of Ika North-East have expressed relief at the intervention, noting that kidnapping has become one of the biggest security challenges in Delta communities.

Observers say the police action reinforces ongoing efforts by Delta State authorities to curb criminal gangs who terrorize motorists, traders, and rural dwellers across the region.

Kidnapping for ransom has been on the rise in southern Nigeria, with states like Delta, Edo, and Rivers witnessing frequent cases of abductions targeting commuters and wealthy individuals.

Security experts argue that the swift collaboration between police, vigilantes, and Operation Delta Sweep sends a strong message to criminal groups operating in the area.

The Delta State Police Command has urged residents to continue providing intelligence that could help in dismantling criminal networks across the state.

For many locals, the latest operation is a reminder that while insecurity persists, decisive action by security agencies can still deliver justice against criminal elements.
