PDP Condemns Maiduguri Mosque Bombing, Accuses Tinubu Government Of Security Failure

(DDM) –  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the bomb explosion that rocked a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday, describing the attack as a grave act of terror and an indictment of the Federal Government’s handling of national security.

The opposition party said the bombing, which occurred at a place of worship during a period of prayers, was unacceptable and deeply troubling for a country already grappling with widespread insecurity.
The PDP accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing in its constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the party’s national leadership, the PDP expressed sympathy with the victims, their families, and the people of Borno State.

The party described the incident as a painful reminder that ordinary Nigerians remain vulnerable to violent attacks despite repeated assurances by the Federal Government.
According to reports, the explosion occurred at a mosque located around the Gamboru Main Market area of Maiduguri.
Security sources confirmed that the blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, suspected to have been planted inside the mosque.
The explosion triggered panic among worshippers and residents in the densely populated area.
Security agencies immediately cordoned off the scene as emergency responders moved in to secure the area and prevent further casualties.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the number of casualties and identify those responsible for the attack.
The PDP said attacks on places of worship represent a dangerous escalation that threatens Nigeria’s social fabric and religious harmony.
The party warned that continued violence against civilians could deepen fear, mistrust, and instability across the country.
It accused the Tinubu-led government of lacking a clear and effective strategy to combat terrorism and insurgency.
The PDP noted that despite increased security spending and repeated policy pronouncements, Nigerians continue to suffer deadly attacks in markets, highways, villages, and now religious centres.
The party argued that the persistence of such incidents suggests systemic failures within the nation’s security architecture.
Borno State has remained the epicentre of insurgency in Nigeria for over a decade.
The Boko Haram conflict, which began in 2009, has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions across the North-East region.
Despite claims of military successes and degraded insurgent capacity, sporadic attacks have continued to occur.
Residents of Maiduguri and surrounding communities have repeatedly expressed concerns over renewed insecurity in recent months.
The PDP said the latest bombing underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security strategy.
The party called on the Federal Government to prioritise intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination, and the welfare of security personnel.
It also urged the government to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion.
The PDP stressed that security cannot be achieved through force alone without addressing underlying socio-economic challenges.
The opposition party further called on the National Assembly to intensify its oversight of the security sector.
It urged lawmakers to demand accountability and transparency in the use of funds allocated to defence and internal security.
The PDP also appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
The party emphasized that protecting lives and property remains the primary duty of any government.
It warned that failure to restore security could erode public confidence in governance and democratic institutions.
As investigations continue into the Maiduguri mosque bombing, the PDP said justice must be served and those responsible must be brought to book.
The party concluded by reaffirming its commitment to advocating for policies that guarantee the safety, unity, and dignity of all Nigerians.
