Police authorities in Ebonyi State have arrested a suspect believed to be the arrowhead behind the kidnapping and killing of a traditional ruler, Francis Igwe.
Igwe was the father of a former Deputy Governor of the state, Kelechi Igwe.
The spokesman of the command, Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He said the suspect, identified as Nwazunku Stephen, was arrested on March 8 at his hideout in Ikwo Local Government Area following sustained surveillance and intelligence-led operations by operatives of the command.
He explained that the arrest came after earlier breakthroughs recorded during the investigation into the incident.
According to him, on March 7, one of the suspects led operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to his hideout, where arms and other items were recovered.
The items recovered include one SMG rifle, one pump-action rifle, three locally made Beretta pistols, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, 10 live cartridges, a machete, a shovel and assorted charms.
Ukandu said the suspect has provided useful information and is assisting the command with ongoing investigations.
He assured the public that the investigation is continuing and that efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals connected to the incident.
