Kwara Teaching Hospital Secures MDCN Accreditation for Medical Training Programme

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted accreditation to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) as a training facility for the preclinical medical programme of Kwara State University.

The approval followed a successful accreditation exercise led by Nnaemeka Nwakama, according to a statement issued by the hospital’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan.

Reacting to the development, Aminat El Imam described the accreditation as a significant milestone for both healthcare delivery and medical education in Kwara State. She assured that all areas identified for improvement during the assessment would be addressed ahead of the council’s next visit, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and workforce capacity under the leadership of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, commended the MDCN team for its professionalism and objectivity, noting that the institution would act swiftly on all recommendations to maintain required standards.

Speaking after the exercise, Nwakama also praised the state government’s decision to upgrade the General Hospital to a teaching hospital, stating that the move would significantly improve access to quality healthcare services across the state.

With the accreditation in place, 300-level medical students of Kwara State University will now proceed to clinical training at KWASUTH upon completion of their First Professional Examination.

Both the university and the teaching hospital have pledged continued collaboration to ensure that facilities, training, and personnel align with global best practices, reinforcing Kwara State’s growing role in medical education and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
