Global pop star Jason Derulo has shared a candid glimpse into his personal life, revealing that marriage is no longer a priority for him at 37, despite once believing he would have settled down much earlier. Speaking in a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, the singer admitted that his current bachelor status is not what he had envisioned growing up, as he always imagined building a life with a partner at a younger age.
Reflecting on his past relationships, Derulo explained that he approached love with sincerity and long-term intentions, often believing that the women he dated could be “the one.” However, his perspective has shifted over time, influenced by both his personal experiences and what he has witnessed within the entertainment industry. According to him, being constantly exposed to high-profile breakups and complicated relationships has made him more cautious about the idea of marriage.
He noted that many relationships, even those that appear stable on the surface, can unravel unexpectedly, especially under public scrutiny. These observations have made him more aware of how quickly situations can change, leading him to rethink the idea of rushing into a lifelong commitment. Rather than following societal expectations, Derulo now places greater importance on emotional readiness and personal clarity.
The singer’s own romantic history has also contributed to his current outlook. He was previously in a widely publicized relationship with Jordin Sparks, which lasted several years before ending in 2014. More recently, he welcomed a son with Jena Frumes in 2021, though the relationship ended shortly after the birth of their child. Despite the breakup, Derulo has remained actively involved in his role as a father, often expressing how important that part of his life is to him.
While he has not completely ruled out marriage in the future, Derulo made it clear that he is no longer in a rush to walk down the aisle. Instead, he is focused on living intentionally, growing as an individual, and making decisions that align with his current reality rather than past expectations. His comments reflect a broader shift in how many people today view relationships, choosing to prioritize personal development and stability over traditional timelines.
For now, Derulo appears content with where he is in life, balancing his successful music career, business ventures, and fatherhood, while remaining open to love when the right situation presents itself.
