Trump Sacks Pam Bondi as US Attorney General

Share this:

United States President Donald Trump has dismissed Pam Bondi from her role as attorney general, appointing Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as acting replacement.

In a statement, Trump praised Bondi’s service, describing her as a “great American patriot” and highlighting her role in overseeing a crackdown on crime.

He said she would be moving to a new role in the private sector but did not give a specific reason for her removal.

However, sources familiar with the matter said Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with Bondi over several issues, including her handling of high-profile cases and concerns that she had not aggressively pursued some political opponents.

Bondi’s departure makes her the second cabinet official to be removed in recent weeks, following the exit of Kristi Noem.

Officials say Trump had been considering her removal for days and had informed her during a recent conversation that she would soon be replaced.

There had been speculation she might be reassigned within government, including a possible judicial appointment, but Trump later indicated she would leave public office entirely.

Sources also suggest that Lee Zeldin is among those being considered for the permanent role, though no final decision has been announced.
