Gunmen, suspected to be terror bandits, attacked the convoy of Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Mouktar Lugga, on the Funtua-Gusau highway on Thursday evening.
Though, details of casualties and damage are still unclear.
The attack happened at about 6:16pm when he was heading back to Gusau after attending an official function.
Security analyst, Zagozola Makama, while quoting sources said the attackers suddenly appeared from both sides of the road and began shooting at the vehicle conveying the chief of staff, his driver, and two other occupants.
One of the bullets reportedly shattered the vehicle’s windshield, narrowly missing the driver. Another assailant was said to have tried firing at close range, but the weapon did not go off.
In spite of the ambush, the driver successfully navigated the vehicle out of danger, ensuring that all occupants escaped without injury.
