United States President Donald Trump has warned that any country supplying military weapons to Iran will face steep economic consequences, including a 50 per cent tariff on all goods exported to the US.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, Trump said the measure would take effect immediately and apply without exceptions.
“A country supplying military weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed… 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions,” he stated.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, even as diplomatic efforts appear to be underway to ease the crisis.
In a separate message, Trump disclosed that his administration is also engaged in discussions over possible tariff and sanctions relief for Iran.
This follows his earlier announcement of a temporary ceasefire agreement with Tehran.
The ceasefire deal includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and gas, which had been disrupted during the conflict.
