Manchester City Agree €15m Deal For Highly Rated Teenage Forward – Report

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM — Manchester City are reportedly close to completing a €15 million agreement for highly rated teenage forward Mathys Detourbet, a player widely compared to former academy star Cole Palmer.

According to reports, the transfer involves French club ES Troyes AC, with the deal expected to be finalised ahead of the summer transfer window.

The move comes as Manchester City continue their long-term recruitment strategy focused on identifying and developing elite young talent within the City Football Group network.

Detourbet, who is currently 18, has impressed in Ligue 2 with Troyes during the ongoing campaign, attracting attention for his technical ability, vision, and creativity in attacking positions.

Although his statistical output of two goals and six assists in 29 appearances may appear modest, scouts have reportedly been more impressed by his overall influence on matches rather than raw numbers.

Analysts describe him as a technically gifted winger capable of operating in tight spaces, with strong dribbling ability and the vision to create scoring opportunities from advanced positions.

His playing style has drawn comparisons with Cole Palmer, now a standout performer at Chelsea FC, after leaving Manchester City in search of regular first-team football.

Palmer’s development away from Manchester has often been referenced as a reminder of the risks involved in letting academy talents leave too early.

However, City appear committed to ensuring Detourbet follows a more structured development pathway within their wider club system.

Reports suggest the player could be loaned back to Troyes for further experience, particularly if the French side secures promotion to Ligue 1, allowing him to gain top-flight exposure.

The deal would also strengthen the existing relationship between Manchester City and Troyes, both of whom are part of the City Football Group structure.

Previous transactions between the clubs include the €25 million move of Savinho to Manchester City in 2024, highlighting an established transfer pipeline.

Despite interest from other European clubs, including AS Roma, who reportedly made a €10 million bid last summer, Troyes are said to have held out for a higher valuation.

Detourbet’s current estimated market value is significantly lower, but his rapid development has prompted City to act early in securing his future.

Manchester City’s recruitment strategy continues to prioritise long-term planning, ensuring young talents are carefully developed before being integrated into the first team.

If completed, the move would further underline the club’s commitment to building for the future while maintaining a strong global scouting and development network.
