Nigerian music superstar Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has officially confirmed his new political role as Head of Youth Mobilisation for the re-election campaign of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Afrobeats star made the announcement on Tuesday via his verified account on X, stating that he is prepared to take on the responsibility of mobilising young people ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State.

In his post, Davido expressed confidence and readiness, describing the appointment as a call to support a structured and energetic campaign. He also emphasized his commitment to ensuring strong youth participation in the electoral process.

The role places him in a more visible political position within the campaign of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Davido has long been seen as one of the governor’s most prominent supporters, frequently using his influence to amplify political and civic messages tied to his uncle’s administration.

This latest appointment adds to his growing list of political engagements. In 2025, the Osun State government previously named him Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a body set up to support sports development and infrastructure in the state.

The announcement has triggered widespread reactions online. Supporters, especially fans of his music collective known as “30BG,” have praised his loyalty and willingness to contribute to his family’s political vision. They argue that his influence could help increase youth participation in the electoral process.

However, some critics have raised concerns about the increasing intersection between entertainment and active politics, questioning whether global music figures should take on official political responsibilities during election periods. Others believe his involvement reflects the growing trend of celebrities playing more direct roles in governance and civic engagement in Nigeria.
