JOS, PLATEAU STATE  — The CLEEN Foundation has said sustainable peace is achievable in Plateau State if communities actively participate in security, policing, and resilience-building initiatives.

The foundation made the assertion while addressing concerns over recurring violence and insecurity affecting parts of the state.

According to the organisation, long-term peace cannot be achieved through force alone but requires cooperation between communities, security agencies, and local institutions.

The foundation stressed the importance of community-based policing and early warning systems in preventing violent conflicts.

It also urged residents to support peacebuilding initiatives aimed at strengthening trust and dialogue among different groups.

Security experts associated with the organisation noted that local participation remains critical in identifying threats and reducing tensions before crises escalate.

The group argued that sustainable peace depends on inclusive engagement involving traditional rulers, youth groups, women, and civil society organisations.

Plateau State has experienced repeated communal clashes and security challenges over the years, leading to loss of lives and displacement of residents.

The foundation said resilience-building programmes could help communities better respond to security threats and social tensions.

It also called for improved collaboration between security agencies and local residents to enhance intelligence gathering and crisis prevention.

Stakeholders at the event reportedly emphasised the need for justice, reconciliation, and economic opportunities as part of broader peace efforts.

Analysts say insecurity in Plateau requires both security responses and long-term social interventions to address underlying causes.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence and community safety across the state.

As security discussions continue, attention remains on how collaborative approaches can help reduce violence and strengthen stability in the region.
