The Political Wing of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), has commended Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra for dissolving the apex making decision body of the movement (DOS).
The group in a statement made available to Diaspora Digital Media said the decision to disband the DOS represented a total shift towards a new approach to the Biafra question.
IPOB-PW in the statement emphasized the necessity for political participation, dialogue and constitutional reform.
The pro-democracy group said overtime, it has consistently advocated a non-violent approach to the Biafra cause, noting that the struggle should be repositioned in a way that would promote the interests and wellbeing of the Igbo people.
The statement reads: “It’s important to note that IPOB-Political Wing has been working assiduously to make sure that Biafra agitation is shaped in a way that can be beneficial to Ndigbo.
“We have long stood on the fact that we must eschew violence, vitriol and negative presentation and representation of Biafra.
“We whole heartedly accepted the Sokoto Declaration which urged everyone to rise for a new Nigeria and a framework for a brand new constitution.
“Nnamdi Kanu in the course of our direct and indirect consultations accepted that there is need for a change, and that change cannot come by the actions of the DOS Nnamdi Kanu handed the affairs of his IPOB. Force and insistence on Biafra cannot change anything, we must listen to Nigeria and discuss.
“Barrister Maxwell Okpara under the blessing of Nnamdi Kanu declared his interest to join politics, as there is no other option left for Nnamdi if not political mobilization and participation.
“Ndigbo must not wait for Nnamdi Kanu to announce the need for them to change tactics that lead to death and insecurity in our land. They shouldn’t wait for him to announce everyone should get their voters card, because he has passed the message with Barrister Maxwell Okpara and shown flexibility.
“DOS deserves to be dissolved not only because of their neglect of IPOB members, but because their approach contradicted every sensible approach to the agitation that this time demands. Nnamdi Kanu knows its time for change, but they opposed it.
“IPOB members must rally around Nnamdi Kanu and understand tactics can be changed for a new result. A constitutional change by involving in politics, we support every Kanu’s move in that direction.
“DOS has abandoned the need to be proactive and understand the sufferings of Nnamdi Kanu, while shouting Biafra that can’t come through their radio and online activities.
“We need a practical approach, and IPOB-PW is the alternative. We appreciate the fact that Nnamdi Kanu has understood the need to get involve and change the doomed fate of our people under DOS.
“To get a framework for a brand-new constitution takes political mobilization and participation.
To get Biafra demands political participation and mobilization. So, let’s join hands with Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB-PW and make the dream come true for Ndigbo.”
