MILAN, Italy — AC Milan are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, with new head coach Ruben Amorim keen to work with the Moroccan international once again, according to a report by the Manchester Evening News on Sunday, July 12.
According to reports from Italy, Amorim has identified Mazraoui as one of the defensive options he would like to bring to San Siro as Milan continue their search for reinforcements ahead of the new season. The defender remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028, while the club also holds the option to extend his stay by an additional year.
Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, revealed that Mazraoui is a player Amorim rates highly because of his versatility and experience. Although no formal negotiations have taken place between Manchester United and Milan, the Rossoneri are believed to be closely monitoring his situation.
Mazraoui’s ability to operate in several defensive positions makes him an attractive option for Milan. Throughout his career, he has featured as a right-back, wing-back, and central defender, giving coaches tactical flexibility depending on the system being used. That adaptability is one of the main reasons Amorim is interested in bringing him to Italy.
Last season, Milan regularly played with a three-man defence under Massimiliano Allegri, and Amorim is expected to continue using a similar tactical setup after taking charge. Reports suggest he plans to implement a 3-4-2-1 formation, where Mazraoui could comfortably fit into multiple roles. Should a transfer materialise, Milan are expected to use him primarily on the right side of a back three, although his ability to play in wider positions would provide additional options throughout the campaign.
Mazraoui also offers valuable international experience, having represented Morocco on the biggest stages, including the recent FIFA World Cup, where his country reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated. His composure, defensive awareness and technical quality have earned him a strong reputation across Europe.
At this stage, the interest remains in its early phases, and there have been no direct discussions between the two clubs. However, with Amorim eager to strengthen Milan’s defensive unit and already familiar with Mazraoui’s qualities, the Manchester United defender has emerged as a serious target. Whether Milan decide to make an official approach in the coming weeks could depend on their transfer budget and Manchester United’s willingness to negotiate for one of their experienced defenders.
