Entrepreneur Simi Dapson has set social media abuzz after opening up about the staggering cost of her wedding, describing ₦80 million as “too small” for such an event.
Speaking on the realities of planning a high-end ceremony, Simi explained that while it is possible to have a wedding within that budget, the overall outcome may differ depending on expectations and scale.
“₦80 million is actually too small for a wedding. You can still have an ₦80 million wedding, but the results may vary,” she said.
She went on to hint at just how extravagant her own celebration was, revealing that the total expenses became so overwhelming that she and her partner eventually stopped tracking the costs altogether.
“If I mention the amount we spent at my wedding, I might get picked up. We started calculating everything we were spending but at some point, we stopped because it was too much,” she added.
Simi also disclosed that a significant portion of the budget went into securing the venue alone, with the event hall costing ₦10 million.
Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some users expressing shock at the figures, while others argued that luxury weddings are a matter of personal choice and financial capacity.
The discussion has further reignited debates about societal pressure, the rising cost of weddings in Nigeria, and whether such extravagant spending is necessary or sustainable.
