ABUJA, Nigeria — The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has issued an important notice to prospective students regarding the documentation required for admission, particularly the mandatory presentation of original O’Level certificates, with a temporary exception for recent graduates awaiting certificate release.
The notice, which was shared by Intellicraft Academy NOUN, an admission processing partner, advised applicants that they will be required to provide their O’Level certificate, not just the result printout obtained after examination, for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and other recognised examination bodies.
However, a temporary exception applies to candidates who wrote the examination within the last one to two years and whose certificates have not yet been released by the examination body. In such cases, the school may temporarily accept the result printout on a case-by-case basis.
The same requirement applies to Direct Entry applicants with ND or NCE qualifications, who are also expected to present their certificates. A Statement of Result (Notification of Certificate) may only be accepted if the applicant’s institution is yet to issue the certificate and the delay is recent. Applicants using a degree qualification are subject to the same requirement.
The notice was issued because many applicants are unaware of these requirements. The academy noted that some cafés process admissions without informing students, only for them to discover during the screening stage that they must provide the required certificates, causing unnecessary delays or complications.
