US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that frozen Iranian assets under American control would be used to compensate for damage caused to ships, cargo and other maritime property linked to attacks in and around the Gulf.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the policy would remain in effect until further notice.
“From this point forward, any and all damages done to ships, cargo, or anything related thereto, will be paid for using Iranian money that the United States has in its possession and controls,” he wrote.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, where attacks on commercial shipping have raised concerns over maritime security and global trade.
