The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has dismissed reports that any of its students died in the collapse of the Elite Five Star Hostel in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Monday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Oguegbu Udoka, said no student of the polytechnic had been confirmed dead following the incident, which occurred on Sunday night.

Udoka explained that the collapsed structure was a privately owned hostel located in Amaokpala, outside the institution’s campus, and accommodated both students and non-students.

According to him, preliminary information indicates that the two people believed to have been trapped beneath the rubble are not students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

He also noted that most students had already vacated the campus after completing their second-semester examinations before the building collapsed.

The institution urged the public to disregard misinformation linking the reported fatalities to its students and assured that it would continue to monitor the situation as rescue and investigation efforts progress.
