The Federal Government has announced plans to gradually phase out electricity subsidy payments beginning in 2027.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this on Friday during a media briefing while addressing concerns over the mounting debt in Nigeria’s power sector.

Tegbe said the subsidy removal would be implemented gradually, assuring Nigerians that consumers would not be denied the benefits they currently enjoy during the transition.

He also clarified that the government has no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs, despite the planned subsidy phase-out.
