Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were planning to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido made the claim in a post on his verified X account, hours before a state-wide restriction of movement was scheduled to begin.
He said he had been informed that soldiers were attempting to stop him from entering the state, arguing that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
However, Davido did not identify the soldiers allegedly involved, disclose his source of information or state the route he intended to use.
His claim came amid heightened security measures for the August 15 governorship election.
The Nigeria Police Force had announced a restriction of movement across Osun from midnight on Friday until 6pm on Saturday, allowing only authorised persons, including voters, election officials, security personnel and emergency workers, to move during the period.
More than 15,000 police officers were deployed across the state’s 30 local government areas, alongside helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance.
Police authorities also said soldiers would seal roads leading into the state as part of the security operation.
Reacting to Davido’s allegation, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad accused the singer of creating unnecessary drama, arguing that the movement restriction was a general security measure rather than a targeted action against him.
Davido has been vocal about the Osun election and has urged the international community, including US President Donald Trump, to monitor the poll over concerns about alleged violence and intimidation.
The singer is also a prominent supporter of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform.
Davido’s allegation that soldiers specifically sought to prevent him from entering Osun had not been independently confirmed in the report.
