Billionaire businessman Dr Adedeji Adeleke, father of Nigerian music star Davido, has reflected on the political battle that saw the Adeleke family defeat former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Speaking about the election, Adeleke attributed the victory not to financial strength but to his strong faith in God.

“Record me and play it to him, let him hear. The reason why we defeated Oyetola and why I was not afraid was not because we have more money,” he said.

According to him, the Adeleke camp did not rely on financial power to secure the victory, insisting that they did not spend money on election day.

“We didn’t even spend any money on election day,” he added.

Adeleke said his confidence throughout the political contest was largely rooted in his belief in God Almighty.

“It was because my belief in God Almighty is very strong,” he said.

His comments have drawn attention amid renewed discussions about the Adeleke family’s political influence in Osun State, particularly following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent re-election.

The Adeleke family has maintained a prominent presence in Osun politics, with the late Isiaka Adeleke serving as the state’s first civilian governor and Ademola Adeleke currently occupying the governorship.

Dr Adedeji Adeleke’s remarks also highlight the role he believes faith played in the family’s political journey, particularly during contests where the outcome appeared uncertain.

His assertion that the family did not spend money on election day is a personal claim and has not been independently verified.

Nevertheless, the comments have generated reactions online, with supporters praising Adeleke’s expression of faith while others have questioned the role of campaign spending and political resources in Nigerian elections.

For the Adeleke family, the story of their political victories remains closely connected to both their influence in Osun and the personal convictions of family members who have supported their political journey.
