Nigerian singer Rybeena has sparked controversy online after revealing that he and his wife, Kidbaby, have agreed not to have their future children in Nigeria.

Speaking during a podcast appearance, the singer explained that his decision was influenced by his concerns about the environment and the mindset he believes it can create.

“Kidbaby and I have agreed not to have a child in Nigeria because I think the water we bathe with creates a certain mentality I don’t want for our child.”

Rybeena also questioned how Nigeria continues to struggle economically despite being home to Africa’s richest man.

“Even though the richest man in Africa is from here, the economy is still bad.”

His comments quickly generated reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating his reasoning and interpretation of the country’s challenges.

Some people interpreted the singer’s remarks as a criticism of Nigeria’s living conditions, particularly concerns surrounding infrastructure, economic opportunities and the environment in which children are raised.

Others, however, took issue with the suggestion that the water people bathe with could influence a person’s mentality, describing the statement as exaggerated and insensitive to Nigerians who continue to raise families in the country.

The remarks have also reignited a familiar debate among young Nigerians and members of the diaspora about whether raising children abroad offers better opportunities than growing up in Nigeria.

While some believe that access to better infrastructure, education and social services can provide advantages for children, others argue that Nigeria’s challenges should not be used to make sweeping judgments about the people or culture.

Rybeena’s comments have therefore become another talking point in the ongoing conversation about Nigeria’s economy, living conditions and the choices young couples make when planning their families.

The singer and Kidbaby are known publicly as a couple, and their relationship has attracted attention from fans online.
