Nollywood stars and colleagues of late actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, gathered in Ilaro, Ogun State, for his eighth-day Fidau prayer following his death.
The gathering brought together members of the actor’s family, friends and several prominent figures from the Yoruba movie industry, who came to pay their respects and support the bereaved family.
Among those present were Odunlade Adekola, Yinka Quadri, Fathia Williams, Jide Kosoko and Mr Latin, alongside other entertainers who worked with Ogogo during his long career.
The emotional atmosphere became particularly noticeable during the tributes, as Yinka Quadri reportedly became overwhelmed with emotion while speaking about his late colleague and needed assistance leaving the stage.
Fathia Williams also delivered an emotional tribute, reflecting on Ogogo’s life and career as colleagues gathered around her during the solemn occasion.
Another moment that attracted attention came when actor Ibrahim Chatta reportedly fired a gun into the air as he paid his final respects to Ogogo during the Fidau ceremony.
The late actor, who died on August 23 at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer, was widely remembered for his contribution to Yoruba-language cinema and his influence on generations of performers.
President Bola Tinubu also expressed condolences to Ogogo’s family and Nigeria’s creative community through a representative, describing the actor’s passing as a significant loss to the country’s entertainment industry.
Plans have also been announced for a 40-day Artists’ Day tribute in honour of the late actor, providing another opportunity for colleagues and admirers to celebrate his legacy.
The eighth-day Fidau served not only as a religious gathering but also as an emotional reunion of colleagues who shared years of work and memories with Ogogo.
As tributes continue, the Yoruba film community is reflecting on the career and lasting impact of an actor whose name became closely associated with Nollywood’s Yoruba-speaking tradition.
