Trump under fire over misleading video of King Charles

US President Donald Trump has shared an edited video that misleadingly appears to show King Charles ignoring a man who fainted during a royal visit.

The video, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, features clips that appear to portray several world leaders as disrespectful, before shifting to footage of Trump honouring fallen US troops, embracing veterans and greeting law enforcement officers.

The clip involving King Charles was taken from a longer video recorded in July 2020, when he was still Prince of Wales and visited an Asda supermarket distribution centre in Bristol during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the edited version shared by Trump, Charles appears to shrug and walk away as a worker collapses.

However, the full footage shows a different sequence of events. Charles reaches out towards the man as he falls and remains nearby while the worker receives medical attention. The edited video cuts out that portion.

Photographs taken later during the visit also show Charles speaking with the worker.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the video, while the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The three-minute video was posted on Labor Day and begins with footage of French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, where a guardsman appears to collapse in the background.

It also includes clips of former US President Joe Biden appearing to check his watch during a military repatriation ceremony and former President Barack Obama stepping off Marine One and saluting US Marines while holding a paper cup.

These clips are followed by footage presenting Trump in a more favourable light, including moments of him saluting, picking up a US Marine’s cap and comforting families of fallen service members.

Captions including “the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you” and “the people’s president” appear throughout the video, accompanied by Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

Trump has previously spoken warmly about his relationship with King Charles. During the King and Queen’s state visit to the United States in April, Trump described Charles as “the greatest king in my book.”
