Bella Shmurda has revisited a painful chapter from his early days, recalling how he once stole a young boy’s bicycle and sold it to fund his music ambitions.
The singer said that while living in Okokomaiko, Lagos, he took the bicycle and sold it at Alaba Market for ₦7,000, using the money to pay for studio sessions.
Bella Shmurda described the incident as a painful memory despite his success today.
The singer said he has since bought the boy a new bicycle, suggesting that he eventually made amends for what happened.
The revelation is part of the singer’s reflections on the difficult circumstances he faced while trying to establish himself in the music industry.
Bella had previously spoken about the bicycle incident during an interview with Echo Room TV’s Link Up, where he recounted selling a neighbour’s bicycle for ₦7,000 and using part of the proceeds to pay for studio time.
His early struggles have featured prominently in his account of his rise from Okokomaiko to becoming one of Nigeria’s recognised street-pop acts. In earlier interviews, Bella has spoken about moving from studio to studio in pursuit of a music career and wanting to eventually return to his community as someone who could make a positive impact.
The latest reflection highlights the difficult choices and experiences Bella says shaped his journey before music success changed his circumstances.
