The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has apprehended Emylee Thai, a fugitive accused of defrauding the US Medicare system of more than $100 million.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest in a post on X.
He said Thai had been on the run since 2022 and was arrested in Vietnam.
Patel said Thai was believed to have been hiding in Vietnam since at least 2023, adding that the FBI was working with international law enforcement partners to secure her return to the United States.
Thai faces charges including conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States, among other offences.
According to Patel, Thai is the sixth suspect on the FBI’s new Most Wanted Fraudsters list to be captured since the list was created three months ago.
He said the six suspects had collectively been responsible for more than $2 billion in alleged fraud and had spent more than 4,000 days on the run before their arrests.
Patel thanked the US Department of Justice, the White House Fraud Task Force and other law enforcement partners for their cooperation in what he described as a major initiative against high-value fraud suspects.
The FBI director said the operation was being conducted under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
