A man who identified himself as a driver living under a bridge in Lagos has spoken about his difficult living conditions, saying he sleeps under the bridge despite working for a wealthy Lagos resident.
In a video circulating online, the man said he works as a driver for a “big man” who owns a Lexus and is aware of his living situation.
“I’m a driver and I sleep under this bridge everyday. I drive a big man in Lagos here, a Lexus, he knows I live under this bridge but he doesn’t care,” the man said.
He also expressed frustration over what he described as the treatment of ordinary Nigerians by politicians, particularly during election periods.
According to him, politicians pay attention to people like him when they need votes but allegedly abandon them after elections.
“Politicians only need us during elections like this, after the election, they abandon us. We’re suffering,” he said.
Despite his complaints about his circumstances and his criticism of politicians, the man said he intends to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the next election.
“I’ll vote Tinubu,” he declared.
His comments have generated reactions online, with social media users discussing the contrast between his difficult living conditions and his stated political preference.
The video has also sparked conversations about poverty, housing and the living conditions of low-income workers in Lagos, as well as the factors that influence voters’ political choices.
The man did not disclose the exact location of the bridge where he reportedly sleeps, nor did he provide details about his employer or how long he has been living there.
His claim that his employer is aware of his living conditions also could not be independently verified from the video.
The comments come ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with political parties and candidates expected to intensify engagement with voters as the election approaches. INEC’s published timetable currently schedules the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.
For now, the driver’s account remains his personal testimony about his living and working conditions, while his declaration of support for Tinubu reflects his own stated voting intention.
