Anambra-based comedians and content creators Waga Ge Comedy and Ozigbondu Mmuo have sent a political warning to popular native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, better known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, following his recent release from custody.
The content creators urged Akwa Okuko to be cautious if he is approached to campaign or canvass support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
In a message directed at the native doctor, they reminded him of his popularity among the people and warned that openly supporting a political party could attract backlash.
“Akwa Okuko, you know you are loved by the people. If they ever bring you a suggestion to canvass for support for APC in Anambra State, think twice because you might regret it,” they said.
Their remarks come shortly after Akwa Okuko regained his freedom following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s exercise of the prerogative of mercy.
Nwangwu had been convicted after pleading guilty in a plea-bargain arrangement and was serving a custodial sentence connected to offences involving the practice of “Oke-ite” and related matters. Reports initially described his release as a pardon, although Anambra State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Tobechukwu Nweke later clarified that the governor had remitted the unserved portion of his sentence rather than granting a pardon in the strict legal sense.
Following his release, the state also indicated that Nwangwu would participate in youth reorientation efforts. Soludo had said his administration would work with him toward the development of Anambra State.
The warning from Waga Ge Comedy and Ozigbondu Mmuo has since generated discussion online, particularly over the growing involvement of celebrities, entertainers and influential personalities in political activities.
Their statement, however, represents their own advice to Akwa Okuko and does not establish that any political party has approached him to campaign or canvass support.
Akwa Okuko had not publicly responded to the warning at the time of the report.
