…APC calls for investigation
Irate youths in Jega area of Kebbi State at the weekend destroyed the posters of President Bola Tinubu and state Governor Nasir Idris.
The youths were protesting against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The protesters comprising mainly youths were returning from a football match on Saturday when they started shouting ‘bamaso’, (we don’t want) and started destroying the APC posters.
The youths who were protesting along the major roads in the town, according to Daily Trust were also seen stoning and destroying APC posters and billboards that were mounted in strategic areas within the town.
They also destroyed and broke windscreens of many vehicles belonging to a car dealer located in the area, during the protest.
However, security operatives were latter deployed to the area and the protesting youths were dispersed before normalcy was restored in the town.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference on the development, APC state publicity secretary, Isah Assalafi, demanded a full investigation and prosecution of perpetrators.
He called on security agencies to “act decisively, investigate thoroughly and prosecute every person found responsible for the protest”, saying “Nobody should be shielded by political affiliation, position or influence”.
The party called on other political parties in the state and their leaders to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and commit themselves to peaceful democratic engagement.
He said the APC would continue to support every lawful effort to protect lives, secure communities and preserve democratic participation in the state.
