Years ago, Nigerian singer Sexy Steel shared a story about his journey in the entertainment industry, revealing how he once walked away from a ₦17 million Guinness brand ambassadorial deal because of his decision not to consume alcohol.
Sexy Steel recalled that he had never taken alcohol or smoked throughout his life, saying those personal choices influenced his decision to reject the offer despite the huge amount of money attached to it.
“I’ve never taken alcohol all my life, I have never smoked all my life,” the singer said while recounting the experience.
According to Sexy Steel, the deal came about two decades ago when he was offered ₦17 million to become a Guinness brand ambassador. He said the opportunity would have involved drinking and promoting alcohol, something he was unwilling to do.
“I rejected ₦17 million naira 20 years ago when I was offered to be a brand ambassador for Guinness and drink alcohol, but I refused,” he recalled.
The singer also spoke about how he found his way into the entertainment industry despite coming from a wealthy family.
Sexy Steel said he made the decision to leave his father’s wealth behind and hustle for himself, a move that eventually opened doors for him within the Nigerian music scene.
“I left my rich dad to hustle,” he said.
His journey later brought him in contact with Bred, who, according to Sexy Steel, introduced him to Davido.
The singer recalled that when he went to meet Davido, the future Afrobeats superstar was working on “Dami Duro,” one of the songs that would later become associated with Davido’s early rise to prominence.
Sexy Steel claimed that the beat Davido was working with at the time was originally meant for him.
“When I went to meet Davido, he was recording Dami Duro. The beat Davido made for Dami Duro was meant for me,” he claimed.
He further said Davido had also mentioned the story during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe.
Looking back at the story years later, Sexy Steel’s recollection offers a glimpse into the decisions and encounters that shaped his career.
