A 29-year-old man identified as Ebikeme Seiye from Akede community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has been arrested over the alleged sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl.
Seiye was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, by operatives of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps, Amassoma Cluster, following a report made by the child’s elder cousin, identified as Tobokeakpo Selekeme.
According to the report, the suspect was questioned after his arrest and allegedly confessed to the offence. He reportedly attributed his actions to being under the influence of hard drugs, locally referred to as “Kolos.”
Following the interrogation, the Community Safety Corps reportedly handed Seiye over to the Amassoma Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The young victim has meanwhile been taken to a hospital, where she is receiving medical attention.
The reported incident has raised concern within the community, with calls for the authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the child receives appropriate care and protection.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspect is entitled to due process under the law.
