Edo lecturer found dead in hotel room after meeting sex worker

A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has died after allegedly collapsing in a hotel room following an encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

According to the Edo State Police Command, Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel and engaged the services of the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob.

The police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the lecturer later sent the woman to buy water.

She said the woman returned to find Uwuigbe lying dead in the room.

Ikoedem said three people, including the hotel owner, manager and the sex worker, had been arrested in connection with the incident.

She added that the lecturer’s remains had been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary while investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed that Uwuigbe was a staff member of the institution.

However, he said the incident occurred outside the university and was unrelated to the institution.

He also clarified that the woman involved was not a student of the university.
