LAGOS, Nigeria — MTN Nigeria has confirmed a network outage affecting customers in parts of Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assuring subscribers that its engineers are working to restore services.
The telecommunications company announced the disruption on Thursday, October 8, 2026, through a notice posted on its official X account, warning that some services might be temporarily unavailable in the affected locations.
“Network Outage Alert! We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result,” the company stated.
MTN added that its technical team was working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and thanked customers for their patience.
Engineers Working To Restore Services
In a follow-up message, the telecom operator acknowledged reports from subscribers experiencing difficulties using its services and apologised for the inconvenience.
“Dear Customer, We are aware some of our customers are having challenges using our services. Our engineers are working to restore services as quickly as possible,” the company said.
The disruption could affect customers’ access to services in the locations identified by the company. However, MTN did not disclose the precise cause of the outage or provide a specific timeline for the full restoration of affected services.
The company has not indicated whether all customers in the five affected areas are experiencing the same level of disruption.
Customers Await Full Restoration
The outage has raised concerns among subscribers who depend on mobile connectivity for calls, internet access, business transactions and other daily activities.
For businesses that rely on digital payments and online communication, service interruptions can affect transactions and customer engagement. However, the extent of the impact from the latest disruption has not been publicly quantified.
MTN’s announcement also did not establish whether the problem was linked to damaged fibre infrastructure, equipment failure or another technical issue.
