Nine killed in Erie, Pennsylvania mass shooting

Nine people have been confirmed dead in Erie, northwestern Pennsylvania, after what Governor Josh Shapiro called a “tragic mass shooting.”

According to reports, the incident happened late on Friday.

In a statement  released on Saturday, the City of Erie said investigators had established that all nine deaths occurred before police officers arrived at the scene.

Governor Shapiro said he had spoken with the Mayor of Erie, Mr Devlin, and offered the full support of his administration. “I’ve spoken with Mayor Devlin and offered my Administration’s full support following the tragic mass shooting in Erie last night, killing nine of our fellow Pennsylvanians,” he wrote on X on Saturday morning.

Bystanders gathered near a house where the victims were confirmed dead. Reuters reported the scene on Saturday.

The identities of the dead, the suspected gunman and the motive had not been disclosed as of the time of this report. It was also unclear whether anyone was in custody or injured.

Erie sits on the shore of Lake Erie, in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania.
