“I’m Almost 27 With Nothing”: Nigerian Man Breaks Down Over Life Struggles

A young Nigerian man has sparked conversations online after emotionally opening up about his struggles with unemployment, loneliness and financial dependence as he approaches his 27th birthday in November.

The man, whose identity has not been established in the reports reviewed, expressed frustration over his inability to achieve the level of independence he had hoped for at this stage of his life. In a video circulating on social media, he revealed that he still lives with his parents, has no source of income and has neither a girlfriend nor friends to turn to for companionship.

Speaking about his situation, he said, “I’m 27 years old, I’ll be 27 in November, and I still live under my parents’ roof. With absolutely nothing going on in my life.”

The emotional video showed him describing his living conditions and the feeling that he had little to call his own. He reportedly explained that his father bought his bed and pillow, while the covering he uses at night belongs to his mother.

Reflecting on his financial situation, he lamented, “It’s absolutely nothing to my name.”

Beyond his financial struggles, the young man said his lack of social connections had made his situation more difficult. He described feeling isolated and disconnected from developments around him, adding that he had been trying to figure out his life on his own without seeing the results he wanted.

“I feel like my life is wasting away. I’m not informed, I’m isolated. I feel outstated from everything in life,” he said.

He also expressed exhaustion over his repeated attempts to find a way forward, admitting that handling his challenges alone had not worked.

“I’ve been trying to figure things out on my own in isolation but it’s not working. It’s not fucking working, I’m fucking tired,” he said.

At another point in the video, he repeatedly expressed his frustration, saying he felt unable to continue enduring his present circumstances.

“I can’t take this anymore, man. I’m fucking tired. I can’t continue to endure, man, I can’t continue to endure,” he added.

The video was shared on X by a user identified as Chuks Eric on October 15, 2026, and was subsequently reported by GistReel. The man’s account has drawn attention to the pressure some young adults experience when they believe they have fallen behind their expectations or those of society.

In Nigeria, expectations surrounding financial independence, career progression, moving out of the family home and romantic relationships can weigh heavily on young people, particularly when unemployment and the cost of living make it difficult to establish themselves.

For some, seeing peers announce new jobs, businesses, relationships and other milestones on social media can intensify feelings of inadequacy. However, living with one’s parents in one’s twenties does not automatically mean a person has failed, especially when economic circumstances make independent living difficult.

The man’s account also highlights the potential effects of prolonged isolation. While his immediate circumstances and future plans remain unclear, his comments suggest that he is struggling not only with financial limitations but also with the emotional burden of feeling left behind.

His story has prompted renewed discussion about the importance of social support, access to opportunities and the need for young people to seek help rather than carry difficult experiences entirely on their own.

As the video continues to circulate, the man’s situation remains a reminder that progress does not follow the same timeline for everyone, and that personal setbacks do not determine a person’s entire future.
