Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico and his family have reportedly endured a terrifying armed robbery at their home on the outskirts of Seville, Spain, after five masked intruders allegedly stormed the property while they were having dinner.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 10pm on Monday, October 19, when Rico, his wife, Alba Silva, their two young children and Silva’s mother were gathered around the dinner table.

According to reports from Spanish television programme Vamos a ver, the attackers entered the family’s residence in an upscale residential area and subjected them to a frightening ordeal before escaping with valuable possessions.

The robbery reportedly involved the theft of jewellery, watches and cash. French football website Foot Mercato, citing Spanish media reports, also claimed that the intruders physically assaulted members of the household and gagged them during the attack.

The reported violence turned what should have been an ordinary family evening into a traumatic experience, raising fresh concerns about the safety of high profile footballers and their families away from the pitch.

Rico and his family were reportedly inside the property when the five suspects, who allegedly wore masks and gloves, gained entry. The residence is situated within a residential complex surrounded by a wall and equipped with private security.

However, reports indicated that the property’s alarm systems had been switched off at the time of the incident, potentially leaving the family more vulnerable to the intruders.

The circumstances surrounding the suspects’ entry remain unclear, and their identities have not been established in the information available. Although reports have suggested that the attackers may have been members of an organised criminal group, that possibility has not been independently confirmed.

Details concerning the extent of the alleged injuries, the total value of the stolen items and whether any arrests have been made were not provided in the initial reports.

Rico, 32, previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, where he served as a goalkeeper behind the club’s established first choice options. He also represented Sevilla, the club with which he developed his professional career, and spent time on loan at Fulham in the English Premier League.

His football journey was interrupted in May 2023 when he suffered a serious riding accident involving a horse near El Rocío in southern Spain. The incident left him in critical condition and required an extended period of medical treatment and rehabilitation.

Following his recovery, Rico worked towards returning to professional football, eventually resuming his career with Qatar Stars League side Al-Gharafa. He has reportedly been without a club since leaving the Qatari team in the summer of 2026.

The latest reported incident comes after a challenging period in the goalkeeper’s personal and professional life, although the full circumstances of the robbery and its impact on his family remain unclear.

For footballers, fame and success can bring financial rewards, but they can also expose private lives to unwanted attention. Incidents involving burglaries and robberies at the homes of professional players have repeatedly highlighted the security concerns faced by individuals whose wealth and public profiles can make them attractive targets.

In Rico’s case, the reported presence of his wife, young children and mother-in-law during the incident makes the allegations particularly disturbing. However, further details will be needed to establish precisely what happened and whether the family suffered any physical injuries.

As the story develops, attention will turn to the investigation, the identification of the alleged perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen property.

For now, the reported robbery has cast a troubling shadow over the former PSG goalkeeper’s family life, with the full details of the incident still awaiting confirmation from the relevant authorities.
