PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing the Labour Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo.
Wike described the report as fake and misleading. He made the clarification on Friday in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.
The Denial
The statement was signed by Wike’s media aide, Kelvin Ebiri. He said the report was fabricated by mischief-makers.
“The attention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has been drawn to a fake report circulating on social media. The report claims that the minister endorsed the Labour Party governorship candidate in Adamawa State. This is false,” the statement read.
Wike urged the public to disregard the report. He said he has no reason to endorse a candidate from another party.
Wike’s Political Affiliation
Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. He has been a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu.
The minister has been working to build a coalition of support for the President’s re-election bid. He has, however, denied endorsing candidates from other parties.
“I am a loyal member of the PDP. I have not endorsed any candidate outside my party,” Wike said.
What This Means
The denial is important. It helps to clear the air about Wike’s political stance.
The report had sparked speculation about Wike’s political intentions. It also raised questions about his relationship with the Labour Party.
What Happens Next
Wike will continue to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He will also continue to clarify his position on political matters.
For now, the minister has urged the public to rely on verified information. He said fake news is a threat to democracy.
