Nigeria – Warri Wolves have emerged champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season following a thrilling 3–2 victory over Wikki Tourists in the Super 8 playoff final, held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the Delta-based side, coached by Napoleon Aluma, began the final in dominant fashion, storming to a 3–0 lead within the first 25 minutes.
Yusuf Abdullateef opened the scoring in the 7th minute and later turned provider for Igbunu Evwierhurhoma’s goal in the 16th minute.
Joshua Shemaye then added a third with a powerful strike in the 25th minute to cap off a blistering start.
However, the Bauchi-based Wikki Tourists, nicknamed the Elephants, mounted a spirited comeback.
Mamuda Aliyu pulled one back 10 minutes before halftime, and Wonderson Yakubu added another just before the hour mark, setting up a tense finale.
Despite intense pressure, Warri Wolves held firm to secure the win and the championship.
This victory not only crowns Warri Wolves as 2024/25 NNL champions but also seals their long-awaited return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2025/26 season, four years after they were relegated.
Warri Wolves had earlier sealed promotion by topping Group B in the Super 8 playoffs, defeating Crown FC 2–1 to book their NPFL ticket.
They now join Wikki Tourists, Barau FC, and Kun Khalifa in moving up to the topflight, replacing relegated teams Sunshine Stars, Heartland FC, Akwa United, and Lobi Stars.
The 2024/25 season has been a journey of resilience for Warri Wolves.
Once known as the Nigeria Ports Authority FC before rebranding and relocating to Warri, the club has worked hard to rebuild its reputation.
The Warri Township Stadium, their home ground, played host to a loyal fan base that stood by the team throughout their campaign.
The NNL season has been widely praised for improved officiating, tighter competition, and greater organization, underlining the league’s rising profile in Nigerian football.
The Super 8 playoffs in Delta State provided a fitting climax, showcasing quality football and dramatic moments that underscored the league’s progress.
As Warri Wolves prepare for life in the NPFL once again, they carry with them the hopes of Delta State and a renewed ambition to re-establish their place among Nigeria’s elite football clubs.
