Kwara: Security Crackdown Leads to Over 20 Arrests in Ifelodun LGA

The Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State has become the focal point of an intensified security operation aimed at curbing crime.
As a result, authorities have apprehended more than 20 individuals, including suspected gun runners and their logistical supporters.
In collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, the state government initiated a significant operation.
Consequently, nearly 400 special security operatives deployed to target Ifelodun, Ekiti, Edu, Patigi, and nearby border areas.
“We are implementing a lockdown in these local governments.
The operation has just commenced, resulting in over 20 arrests.
Moreover, suspects are providing valuable information since many were apprehended with ammunition and supplies intended for criminals near Babanla,” the report stated.
Detention and Investigation of Suspects
Among the detained suspects, authorities have transferred 10 to Abuja, along with confiscated ammunition for further investigation.
This operation has also led to the unconditional release of several captives previously held by criminal elements in the area.
Collaboration with Neighboring States
A government source revealed that this initiative involves strategic collaboration with security agencies from neighboring Kogi and Niger States.
“The operation starts from Ifelodun, and we are also moving to Edu and Patigi.
Additionally, the Eruku axis is on lockdown to prevent criminals from escaping to Kogi.
We are monitoring border communities around Niger,” the source explained.

Recently, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq assured the public that authorities are implementing measures to combat criminal activities.
This security crackdown specifically targets threats from criminals operating in forested areas and along border regions.
