The US Senate on Thursday rejected a Democratic-led resolution seeking to halt US military action against Iran unless Congress formally authorises the war.
The resolution was defeated by 50 votes to 49, after previously passing the House of Representatives in July.
The vote was largely along party lines, with most Republicans backing President Donald Trump opposing the measure, while nearly all Democrats supported it.
The resolution sought to invoke congressional war powers to prevent further US hostilities against Iran without authorisation from Congress.
