UMUAHIA, NIGERIA — The Abia State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2027 election, Kelechi Anosike, has called on journalists and the media to rigorously scrutinize campaign promises made by political parties and candidates, and to hold the government accountable ahead of the general elections.

Anosike made the call during a media engagement in Umuahia, where he emphasized the critical role of the media in ensuring that politicians are held accountable for their promises and that voters are well-informed before making their choices at the polls.

According to the PDP candidate, the media has a responsibility to interrogate the claims made by candidates and political parties, and to ensure that the electorate is not swayed by empty promises, propaganda, or falsehoods. He argued that a well-informed electorate is essential to a functioning democracy, and that journalists must act as gatekeepers of truth and accountability.
