Businessman and politician Abdulrahman Bashir Haske has resigned from the All Progressives Congress and joined the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, where he will contest as the party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 election.
Haske was formally unveiled as the APM governorship candidate in Yola on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in a development that has added another dimension to the growing political contest in Adamawa State.
His movement from the APC to the APM comes after he previously sought the APC ticket to contest the governorship election. His decision has now positioned him as one of the politicians seeking to challenge for the leadership of Adamawa under a different political platform.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Haske explained that his decision to join the APM was based on his desire to pursue what he described as a people-centred development agenda for the state.
He described the move as a “convergence of principle and purpose”, stressing that his interest was not simply about changing political parties but about building a movement focused on the future of Adamawa.
Haske said that if elected governor, his administration would give priority to areas including agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, security and transparent governance.
He also highlighted youth inclusion and sustainable development as important components of his political agenda, promising to work towards creating greater opportunities for young people and strengthening communities across the state.
The event attracted APM leaders, traditional and community leaders, women and youth groups, as well as supporters drawn from the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State. The gathering provided an opportunity for the new candidate to formally introduce himself to the party structure and supporters as the 2027 governorship race begins to take shape.
The National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, said the party chose Haske because of what he described as his alignment with its political ideals.
Dantalle said that following extensive consultations, the party was convinced that Haske had the qualities required to provide an alternative leadership for Adamawa.
He pointed to Haske’s stated commitment to youth empowerment, inclusive development and stronger communities as some of the reasons behind the party’s decision to support his candidacy.
The Adamawa State Chairman of the APM, Badejo Bello, also welcomed Haske into the party and described him as a bridgebuilder who understands the challenges and opportunities facing the state.
Bello expressed confidence that Haske’s candidacy would help the APM present what the party considers a credible alternative to voters in the 2027 election.
Haske’s defection represents a fresh political realignment ahead of the next governorship election. His decision is particularly significant because he had previously been associated with the APC and had expressed interest in contesting the governorship race under the party.
His emergence under the APM also follows the withdrawal of the party’s earlier governorship candidate, Babajo, who reportedly stepped aside from the contest in what he described as being in the interest of Adamawa State.
The development means the APM will now move into the next phase of its political preparations with Haske as its standard-bearer.
For the former APC aspirant, the immediate challenge will be to build a strong political structure across Adamawa and convince voters that the APM platform can provide the change and development he has promised.
The 2027 Adamawa governorship contest is expected to attract intense political activity as parties strengthen their structures, identify candidates and begin mobilisation across the state.
With Haske now officially carrying the APM flag, his next task will be to translate his campaign promises into a broader political message capable of attracting support beyond his immediate political base.
The APM leadership has already called for unity among its members and supporters as the party prepares for the election.
As political activities increase across Adamawa, Haske’s defection from the APC and emergence as the APM candidate will likely remain an important talking point in the state’s developing 2027 political landscape.
