A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Dino Melaye has congratulated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar following his victory at the just concluded primary of the party.

The former lawmaker juxtaposed Atiku Abubakar’s victory at the party’s presidential primary election with Arsenal’s recent English Premier League triumph.

The duo are Arsenal fans.

The returning officer of the ADC presidential primary poll, Tunde Ogbeha announced Atiku as winner of the exercise on Wednesday night.

A breakdown of the results revealed that Atiku polled 1,846,370 votes, Amaechi 504,117 votes while Hayatu-Deen got 177,120 votes.

In a post on X on Thursday, Melaye said Atiku may just be doing it like Arsenal.

“Oga you did it like Arsenal,” he wrote.

Though, this is coming despite controversy trailing the ADC primary, with Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejecting the results over alleged irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.

But the former Senate President and national chairman of the party, David Mark while handing over the flag to Atiku Abubakar, called on all the aspirants to work together describing them as eminently qualified to lead the country.

Mark said: “I will like to handover our flag to our flagbrear, and the man who will take us to the villa.

“The journey ahead might not be easy, but with Nigerians on our side, we will win. Nigerians are watching to see if we can put them first. Let tonight mark a rebirth of political trust. Let’s embrace spirit of sportsmanship.”

While reacting, Atiku said: “I hereby accept the nomination.”

In his acceptance speech, he called on other contestants, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to close ranks, and work for the progress of the party.
