Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate arrest and investigation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over a viral video in which the lawmaker was allegedly heard threatening members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke made the demand on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Osogbo, saying he had reported the matter to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to the governor, the IGP confirmed that the video existed and assured him that appropriate action would be taken.
Adeleke described the alleged remarks as a national security concern, calling on the police and the Department of State Services to investigate Fadahunsi.
“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat,” the governor said, describing the alleged statement as an incitement against the people of Ijesaland and Osun State.
The controversy followed the circulation of a video on social media by Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who identified the speaker as Fadahunsi and provided an English translation of the remarks.
However, Fadahunsi denied threatening anyone with violence, saying the video had been edited and manipulated to distort what he actually said.
The senator said his comments were made in response to alleged attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa and other parts of the state.
According to him, he was warning that the APC would retaliate if attacks against its members continued.
Fadahunsi also urged residents of Ijesaland to reject violence and participate peacefully in Saturday’s election.
Meanwhile, Adeleke alleged that a police signal had been issued for the arrest of Accord Party leaders across the state, with the arrested persons allegedly to be taken to Abuja and detained until after the election.
The governor urged the police and other security agencies to operate within the law and ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible election.
