Andrew Garfield has revealed that he stopped using OpenAI’s ChatGPT as a “fancy Google” after portraying OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Artificial.
The actor said playing Altman and exploring the world surrounding artificial intelligence left him feeling more cautious about the technology and its potential capabilities.
“I got a bit scared. I felt a little mistrusting of the technology,” Garfield said.
The actor explained that he became particularly concerned by the uncertainty surrounding the full capabilities of rapidly developing AI systems.
“It feels like the people who are encouraging us to use the technologies don’t exactly know its capacities themselves. That feels a little irresponsible, to me personally,” he added.
Garfield’s comments come as the growing use of AI tools such as ChatGPT continues to spark discussions about their benefits, limitations and potential risks.
In Artificial, Garfield portrays Sam Altman in a story centered on the rise of artificial intelligence and the events surrounding OpenAI. His experience preparing for the role appears to have influenced how he personally views and interacts with AI technology.
