APC, ADC trade accusations over unpaid salaries, ₦1bn SUV gifts

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of failing to pay its employees for more than 12 months, raising questions about the opposition party’s management and commitment to workers’ welfare ahead of the 2027 general election.

The ADC, however, criticised the reported distribution of seven luxury sport utility vehicles (SUVs), valued at about ₦1 billion, to APC youth leaders, describing the move as excessive amid the economic difficulties facing millions of Nigerians.

The exchange has intensified the political dispute between the two parties as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.

In a statement on Monday, APC-PCC spokesperson Dele Alake accused the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Senator David Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, of neglecting the welfare of party employees.

The APC council described the alleged failure to pay salaries for more than a year as unacceptable, questioning how a party seeking to govern Nigeria could address workers’ welfare if it could not meet its own obligations.

The campaign council also linked the allegations to the records of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate, and Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State.

However, the report did not include a detailed response from the ADC directly addressing the allegation of unpaid staff salaries.

ADC Faults Reported ₦1bn SUV Distribution

In its response, the ADC criticised the reported distribution of seven luxury SUVs, said to be worth approximately ₦1 billion, to APC youth leaders.

The party argued that the spending was difficult to reconcile with the economic pressures facing Nigerians, many of whom continue to struggle with the cost of food, transportation and other essential needs.

The dispute has brought the parties’ spending priorities and internal management into the political debate ahead of the next presidential election.

The reported value of the vehicles and the circumstances surrounding their distribution were not independently established in the supplied report.

Atiku to Campaign Across 36 States

Meanwhile, Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, said Atiku would campaign across all 36 states of the federation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The statement signals the party’s intention to pursue a nationwide campaign as political parties begin positioning themselves for the next electoral contest.

The salary dispute and the controversy over the reported vehicle gifts are likely to remain part of the political exchanges between the APC and ADC as the campaign period approaches.

Both allegations and criticisms should be assessed alongside further statements and independently verified information from the parties involved.
